Shane’s first tentative steps as a radio presenter began at an early age, when as a fourteen year-old, he hosted his first programme on a pirate radio station (CBC) in his hometown of Clonmel, County Tipperary. It was a hobby that continued throughout his school days. In 1993, the decision was made to go full-time into broadcasting after he secured an on-air position with a local radio station in the West of Ireland, called Galway Bay FM. A steady progression over three years culminated in a very successful 18-month period as Breakfast Show presenter, before taking up the offer of a contract with state broadcaster RTE-2FM in 1996. He moved to sport in 2000 and very quickly hosted RTE Radio’s Olympics coverage from Sydney. A two-year period hosting the 4-hour Saturday Sport programme on RTE Radio 1 followed between 2001-2003, in addition to his double-act with Ryan Tubridy on the award-winning “Full Irish” breakfast show on RTE-2FM (2002-2005). ![]() |
